Please be sure to choose the correct submission category for magazine submissions (poetry, fiction, or visual artwork), for blog submissions, or for our contests (The Critical Poet’s Award Contest and The Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest) as applicable. You may submit to all (the magazine, the blog, and one of our contests), provided that each of your submissions is in accordance with our relevant guidelines and that our reading period is open for the contest to which you are submitting.  Carefully read the submission guidelines to determine what information to include with your submission and to learn about the open submission periods.

For regular magazine and blog submissions:

Please submit no more than one submission in a given category while a decision from us is outstanding; multiple submissions sent in the same category will be returned unread. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable; please notify us immediately if the work has been accepted elsewhere.

If you wish to withdraw all or part of your submission, please do so in the following manner:

  • For prose and visual artwork submissions, please use your submittable.com account to withdraw your work (note: visual artwork is not a submission category for the website),
  • For poetry and blog submissions, please use your submittable.com account to add a note to your submission listing the titles of works no longer available for consideration.

We will only consider work that has not been previously published. 

For magazine publication, we consider:

  • short fiction, flash fiction, and essays (up to 5,000 words)
  • poetry (up to 5 poems; please format and submit as a single document)
  • excerpts (up to 10 pages) from larger works of fiction
  • visual artwork for the magazine only (up to 5 pieces; .jpeg, .png, or .pdf formats only)
For publication in our blog, we consider:
  • fully researched, original articles, reviews, and interviews (up to 700 words) (sources and research must be disclosed)

We do not accept:

  • unsolicited reviews (except for the blog submission category)
  • unsolicited interviews (except for the blog submission category)
  • email submissions (please use the submittable.com system on our site)
  • previously published material
  • works created by persons under the age of 13

  • works that are plagiarized
SUBMISSION FORMAT
Submit one blog fully researched, original article, review, or interview (up to 700 words) in any one submission. .Pdf, .doc., .docx, and .txt are acceptable file formats. As everything on The Critical Pass Review's website is published in English, please make sure that blog articles not in English are accompanied by a proper translation. The translator is responsible for all author and publisher permissions regarding the original blog article.

SUBMISSION FORMAT
Submit up to five poems (for a maximum of 10 pages) in any one submission. .Pdf, .doc, .docx, and .txt are all acceptable formats.  
All poetry should be formatted and submitted in a single document (uploading and submitting multiple individual poems will result in the appearance of multiple submissions). We accept free and formal verse poetry alike. As The Critical Pass Review is published in English, please make sure that works not in English are accompanied by a proper translation. The translator is responsible for all author and publisher permissions regarding the original work.

THE CRITICAL JUNIOR POET’S AWARD CONTEST GUIDELINES, TERMS, AND CONDITIONS

Before submitting, please make sure that you read, and that you satisfy, the terms of
these guidelines as set forth herein (collectively, the "CJP Award Contest Guidelines"). 

About Critical Junior Poet’s Award

The Critical Junior Poet’s Award was established to foster an interest in poetry in
students between the ages of 13 and 18, and provides a basis for recognition and
encouragement of outstanding student interest and achievement in the art of poetry.

Contest Submission Restrictions

We accept only previously unpublished work.  You must be at least the age of 13 and under the age of 18 at the time of submission. All submissions are final subject to revisions and resubmissions.

How to Submit

When you are submitting poetry, please group up to three (3) poems in a single document (for a maximum of six pages) and then upload your submission. Please do not submit your poems individually. While you will be permitted to submit revised works, ultimately you may submit a total of 3 poems (for a maximum of 6 pages) for final consideration.

There is no entry fee for the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest.

Submission Deadlines & Award Decision Date

Our reading period for the Critical Junior Poet’s Award contest begins on
November 1, 2017 with all submissions due by September 1, 2018. The Critical Junior
Poet’s Award is an editors’ choice award and will be judged by the editors of The
Critical Pass Review
 at their sole discretion, with a decision announced on October 1, 2018.

Verification

Before adjudging any individual the winner of the Critical Junior Poet’s Award, we reserve the right to verify that the entrant is a minor, by contacting that individual’s school and/ or requesting from the individual, documentation of that individual’s age satisfactory to our Editor-in-Chief.  In entering the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest, you and your parent(s) or guardian(s) (as applicable in your case), agree that you may be disqualified from the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest in the event that you are not younger than 18 years of age or in the event that, you fail, despite our request, to allow us to obtain and/or to provide us with documentation necessary to obtain and/or to provide us with (as applicable per the given request), documentation of your age that is satisfactory to us in our sole discretion.  Nothing in this paragraph or these CJP Award Contest Guidelines shall be construed to create a duty on our part to verify the age of any entrant or entrants to the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest, including, without limitation, any entrant who may win the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest.

Publication and Permission:

There will be one winner of the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest for a given year in which the Critical Junior Poet’s Award is awarded.  In entering the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest, each entrant represents that he/she has informed his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) (as applicable in his/her case) of his/her intention to enter the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest and is entering the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest with the full and unconditional permission of his parent(s)/guardian(s) (as applicable).  In entering the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest, each entrant represents that he/she has informed his/her parent(s)/guardian(s) (as applicable) of his/her intention to enter the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest and is entering the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest with the full and unconditional permission of his parent(s)/guardian(s) (as applicable) to his/her (the entrant’s) being mentored, including, without limitation, via electronic communications, with respect to poetry writing and/or his/her poetry draft and/or final submission(s) to the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest.  In entering the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest, each entrant agrees that before any work of the winner of The Critical Junior Poet’s Award can be published in an issue of The Critical Pass Review, the winner and the winner’s parent(s) or guardian(s), as applicable, must sign The Critical Pass Review’s agreement assigning first publishing rights to the winning work to be published to The Critical Pass Review for publication in an issue of the Critical Pass Review and publication on www.criticalpassreview.com.  The Critical Pass Review acquires First North American Serial Rights to published works, which means that copyright for any works published in The Critical Pass Review revert to the author upon publication. As part of the journal’s publication contract, we request and obtain your permission to feature published works or excerpts on The Critical Pass Review‘s website and in its advertising.  Each entrant further agrees that any delays in signing the agreement conferring publishing rights in the winning work may result in publication in a later issue of the Critical Pass Review and that any refusal by the winner and/or the winner’s parent(s)/guardian(s) (as applicable) to sign The Critical Pass Review’s agreement for assignment of publishing rights may preclude publication of the winning work.

Reservation of Rights:

The owner(s) of The Critical Pass Review reserve all intellectual property rights in and to the Critical Junior Poet’s Award and the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest, including, without limitation copyright, trademark, and servicemark rights.  Except as otherwise provided expressly in these CJP Award Contest Guidelines, no use of the Critical Junior Poet’s Award or the Critical Junior Poet’s Award Contest or the results thereof shall be made for commercial purposes or other purposes without the express written consent of the owner(s) of The Critical Pass Review.
